Backend
engineering.

APIs, services and data systems built for correctness under load — authentication, queues, payments and integrations engineered the way production demands.

NestJS · Laravel · Symfony · Node.js Written architecture before code Tested, documented, handed over

Overview

The part users never see — and always feel.

What it is

The services, APIs and data layers behind your product: business logic, authentication, background jobs, payments and integrations — everything between the interface and the database.

Why it matters

Backend quality decides whether your product is fast, secure and extendable — or a liability. Most rewrites we're hired for trace back to backend shortcuts taken years earlier.

Business value

Fewer incidents, faster feature delivery, safe integrations with payment and third-party systems, and a codebase any competent team can extend.

Challenges

The problems we're hired to fix.

Backends fail quietly — until they fail loudly. These are the patterns we see most.

  • +APIs that slow down as data grows
  • +Authentication and permissions bolted on late
  • +Payment flows with no reconciliation
  • +Background jobs that fail silently
  • +Integrations held together by scripts
  • +No tests — every deploy is a gamble
  • +A codebase only one person understands

Solutions

What we build.

API Development

REST and GraphQL APIs with versioning, validation and documentation from day one.

Benefit — Frontends and partners integrate without guesswork.

Authentication & Authorization

Sessions, OAuth, SSO and role-based permissions implemented correctly, not approximately.

Benefit — Access control that passes a security review.

Payment Integrations

Stripe and bank integrations with webhooks, retries, idempotency and reconciliation.

Benefit — Money flows you can audit to the cent.

Queues & Background Jobs

Redis-backed queues for email, exports, imports and long-running work — with retry and dead-letter handling.

Benefit — Slow work stops blocking your users.

Database Design

Schema design, indexing and query optimization for MariaDB, MySQL and PostgreSQL.

Benefit — Queries that stay fast at 100× the data.

Third-party Integrations

CRMs, ERPs, logistics and communication platforms connected through official APIs.

Benefit — One source of truth across your tools.

Legacy Modernization

Incremental refactoring of aging PHP and Node codebases — no big-bang rewrite risk.

Benefit — Modern code without stopping the business.

SaaS Backends

Multi-tenant architectures with billing, usage metering and admin tooling.

Benefit — A foundation that scales with your customer base.

Use cases

Where this shows up.

SaaS platforms

Multi-tenant APIs, subscription billing, usage metering and admin backends.

E-commerce

Checkout services, inventory sync, order pipelines and payment reconciliation.

Booking systems

Availability engines, reservation flows and payment capture for travel and hospitality.

Internal tools

Approval workflows, reporting services and integrations between business systems.

Mobile app backends

APIs, push notifications, sync and offline-first support for iOS/Android apps.

Data pipelines

Import/export services, ETL jobs and scheduled processing with full observability.

Process

How we deliver.

Step 1

Discovery

Domain, load expectations, integrations and constraints — mapped before proposing.

Step 2

Architecture

Written design: services, data model, auth strategy and failure handling.

Step 3

Development

Weekly updates, staged environments and code review on every change.

Step 4

Testing

Automated test suites, load testing and security checks against the agreed bar.

Step 5

Deployment

CI/CD pipelines, containerized rollout and documented runbooks.

Step 6

Support

Warranty window, monitoring and optional maintenance agreements.

Technologies

Our backend stack.

Node.js / NestJS

Our default for new APIs — typed, modular, testable, and fast to extend.

Laravel

Productive PHP framework for business applications with rich ecosystems.

Symfony

Long-lived enterprise PHP systems where structure and stability matter most.

PostgreSQL

Primary relational database — correctness, JSON support and extensions like pgvector.

MariaDB / MySQL

Battle-tested storage for WordPress-adjacent and existing-stack projects.

Redis

Queues, caching, sessions and rate limiting — the backend's connective tissue.

Docker

Identical environments from development to production; no "works on my machine".

OpenTelemetry

Tracing and metrics so production behavior is visible, not guessed.

Deliverables

+
Source code Full ownership transfers to you on final payment.
+
API documentation Every endpoint documented — OpenAPI spec included.
+
Architecture notes Data model, service boundaries and decision records.
+
Test suite Automated tests wired into CI, with coverage on critical paths.
+
Deployment pipeline CI/CD configured on your infrastructure with runbooks.
+
Maintenance plan A written support agreement with response-time commitments.

Why EKSNEKS

Boring reliability, on purpose.

Correctness first

Payments, auth and data integrity treated as non-negotiable requirements.

Tested by default

Automated tests on critical paths — deploys stop being gambles.

Documented handover

API specs, architecture notes and runbooks ship with the code.

Scales sensibly

Designed for next year's load without over-engineering.

Security built in

Secrets management, dependency audits and access control from day one.

Observable in production

Tracing, metrics and alerts — you see problems before users do.

FAQ

Backend, answered.

Can you take over an existing backend?

Yes — it's about half our backend work. We start with a technical audit (often free), document what exists, stabilize the risky parts, then improve incrementally. No forced rewrites.

Which framework should we use?

It depends on your team, existing stack and hiring plans — not on trends. We'll recommend NestJS, Laravel or Symfony with written reasoning, and we're fluent in all three.

Do you build APIs for mobile apps?

Yes — including authentication, push notifications, file handling and sync strategies for offline-first apps.

How do you handle payments safely?

Idempotent webhook handling, full audit logs, reconciliation reports and test-mode coverage before any live transaction. Payment code gets the strictest review standard we have.

Do you write tests?

Always on critical paths — auth, payments, data mutations. Test coverage targets are agreed in the proposal, not left to chance.

Can you work in our repositories and CI?

Yes. We embed in your GitHub/Azure DevOps setup, follow your review process, and leave your team owning the result.

What does a backend project cost?

Indicatively from €8,000 for a custom application backend; smaller API or integration work from less. Every project gets a fixed written quote after discovery.

Who owns the code?

You do — source, documentation and infrastructure configuration transfer in full on final payment.

Need a backend that holds up?

Start with a free discovery call. You'll get a written technical proposal with a fixed quote — before any commitment.
